Mini Review Brain-derived Neurotrophic Factor
نویسندگان
چکیده
Nerve growth factor (NGF) was discovered in the early 1950s due to its trophic (survivaland growth-promoting) effects on sensory and sympathetic neurons (LeviMontalcini and Hamburger, 1951). In 1982, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), the second member of the “neurotrophin” family of neurotrophic factors, was shown to promote survival of a subpopulation of dorsal root ganglion neurons, and subsequently purified from pig brain (Barde et al., 1982). Since then, other members of the neurotrophin family such as neurotrophin-3 (NT-3) (Maisonpierre et al., 1990) and neurotrophin-4/5 (NT-4/5) (Hallbook et al., 1991; Ip et al., 1992) have been described, each with a distinct profile of trophic effects on subpopulations of neurons in the peripheral and central nervous systems.

Depressive Symptoms, Exercise, and Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor in Fibromyalgia Syndrome: A Mini Review
Fibromyalgia syndrome is a chronic widespread pain condition. Other symptoms often can be found, such as fatigue, lack of sleep, irritable bowel syndrome, and mood disturbance. In addition, depression is a clinically relevant symptom that commonly found in fibromyalgia syndrome patients. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor has been known to play a role in fibromyalgia syndrome patients. Additiona...
متن کاملAssessment of oxidative stress parameters of brain-derived neurotrophic factor heterozygous mice in acute stress model
Objective(s): Exposing to stress may be associated with increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Therefore, high level of oxidative stress may eventually give rise to accumulation of oxidative damage and development of numerous neurodegenerative diseases. It has been presented that brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) supports neurons against various neurodegenerative conditio...
متن کاملP36: Role of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor in Pathogenesis and Treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a syndrome causing from a severe traumatic happening that leads to threatened death or injury. PTSD is associated with changes in limbic, hippocampal, and prefrontal cortical region function due to changes in synaptogenesis, dendritic modifying, and neurogenesis. Changes in neuron in PTSD patients result from pathophysiological disturbances in inflammato...
متن کاملEffect of Lithium on Brain-derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) Level in Patients with Ischemic Stroke: A Clinical Trial
Background and Objectives: Previous studies have indicated that lithium may increase the level of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which in turn improves the recovery of patients with stroke. In this controlled trial we evaluated the effect of lithium on BDNF serum level in patients with ischemic stroke. Methods: In this randomized controlled...
متن کاملDiscovery of Novel Peptidomimetics for Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor using Phage Display Technology
Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) is a neuroprotectant candidate for neurodegenerative diseases. However, there are several clinical concerns about its therapeutic applications. In the current study, we selected BDNF-mimicking small peptides from phage-displayed peptide library as alternative molecules to the clinical challenges. The peptide library was screened against BDNF receptor (Ne...
